Taylor Off-Road Racing CORR Rounds 1 & 2 Race Report

After a tough time during Friday’s qualifying, Scott Taylor and his PRO-2 #8 Skyjacker BFGoodrich Tires Ford F-150 has something to prove. Friday night the team solved the fuel starvation problem, but would not know for sure until the Saturday morning practice.

Saturday – Round 1

Saturday’s practice session saw the recently completed truck really come to life. The truck ran lap times 2.5 seconds than in the previous day’s qualifying session.

At the start, the Roush Performance really hooked up with the BFGoodrich Tires. Scott found himself in second place heading into Turn 2. On lap 4 Probst bobbled and Scott took the lead. The Skyjacker engineered suspension really handled the new whoop section as Scott held the lead at the competition caution period.

After the restart on lap 12, Scott held the lead. Then disaster struck. As Scott was coming out of a caution flag area, the nut holding the right front hub together failed causing the truck to roll and ending his day.

“ Wow the truck was really working great. Earlier we were still trying different suspension setups. Then the fuel problem happened. My team never gave up. When it came time to race, everything came together. It’s just unfortunate the hub failure occurred. We’ll get the hub replaced ,and double check everything to make sure nothing else was hurt during the rollover. We will be ready for Sunday.” – commented Scott Taylor.

Sunday – Round 2

Immediately after Saturday’s DNF due to a front hub failure, Taylor Racing went to work. The team replaced the hub and prepped the truck for Sunday. The #8 Skyjacker Suspension, BF Goodrich Tires, Ford F-150 was ready just as the team dinner arrived.

Due to the DNF in round 1, Scott found himself starting from the second row. At the start the BFGoodrich Tires and the Roush powerplant worked perfectly as Scott took the lead coming out of Turn One. Unfortunately the truck spun getting out of Turn 4. This enabled the entire field to get by, putting the #8 in 22nd place. This did not deter Scott. As the laps went on, be began picking off trucks one by one. At the lap 9 competition yellow, Scott was up to seventh place.

When the green flag dropped for the final five laps, Scott continued to move up. At the finish Scott came home in 4th place. Congratulations the podium finishers, 1st – Evan Evans, 2nd Carl Renezeder, & 3rd Todd LeDuc.

“Getting the holeshot was awesome. I just came into Turn 4 little too hot and spun. The truck has come along way since we arrived here. I knew if I could stay clean, we could savage a decent finish. All things considered we are very happy with the 4th place finish. We will do some more fine tuning at the non-points race in Antigo to get ready for the Spring Crandon run.” – comment Scott Taylor.
