Netezza Continues to Sweep the Retail Industry; Data Warehouse Appliance Leader Adds Marquee Global Retailers to Customer Roster, Including Albertsons, Citysearch, Classmates Online, Debenhams, Guitar Center, Restoration Hardware and Ross Stores

CHICAGO--May 22, 2006--Netezza, the global data warehouse appliance leader, today announced that it continues to broaden its footprint in the retail market with the addition of several new customers to its roster of brand-name retailers. Customers including Albertsons, Citysearch, Classmates Online, Debenhams, Guitar Center, Restoration Hardware, Ross Stores and others are now using the Netezza Performance Server(R) (NPS(R)) system to analyze terabytes of critical customer, transactional and operational data to streamline their businesses and maximize the overall customer experience.

Netezza, which launched its Retail & Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) Division in May 2005, enables customers including Ahold, Amazon.com, Catalina Marketing, Neiman Marcus, Shoppers Drug Mart, The TJX Companies and others to query large amounts of data faster and more affordably than with traditional data warehouse systems. The NPS system gives retailers the ability to execute comprehensive market basket, clickstream, CRM, multi-channel inventory, supply chain, merchandising and sales data analysis in real-time. As a result, retailers gain much greater insight into their customers and operations than previously possible.

"Using the NPS system as our Customer Data Warehouse allows us to analyze higher volumes of market basket data faster and at a more detailed level, and significantly improve customer experience and retention across nearly 650 stores," said Brent Buelo, manager, Data Warehouse Services, Ahold. "Although our data has been steadily increasing by the terabyte, the NPS system lets us process, store and manage this data in record time and at a lower cost. As a result, today we are running 133% as many analyst reports by nearly 20% more users and overall our productivity has increased by 25%. And the lower total cost of ownership of the NPS system means we've substantially reduced the overall cost of our data warehouse."

To provide a more comprehensive solution to its retail customers, Netezza has expanded and strengthened its partnerships with industry leaders, including Business Objects, Claraview, Cognos, Informatica, Infosys, MI(9), MicroStrategy, QuantiSense, Infoglide, Unica and VRMS. Together with partner offerings, the NPS system provides retailers with a "best of breed" solid business intelligence foundation as well as advanced solutions, such as fraud detection and a direct interface with retail business systems.

According to Brian Kilcourse, chief strategist for Retail Systems Alert Group, "As retailers face growing competitive pressures, they need a high-performance, low-cost data warehouse solution for in-depth analysis. The ability to analyze detailed data for: inventory, space and pricing optimization, customer targeting and segmentation, and operational areas is no longer optional for retailers to be viable. Netezza's data warehouse appliance has clearly demonstrated that it helps retailers cost effectively interrogate details to get a very clear picture of these key areas."

"As the data warehouse appliance leader, Netezza continues to sweep the retail industry, significantly impacting the way retailers understand their business and their customers," said Andy Winans, vice president, Retail & CPG, Netezza Corp. "With the performance, value and simplicity that the NPS system delivers, coupled with our extensive list of partners, Netezza offers retailers a faster and simpler data warehouse alternative to IBM, Oracle and Teradata, at a much lower cost of ownership. Our existing customers validate these benefits with repeat purchases, and our expanding list of new customers underscores the fact that we are truly transforming the retail industry."

The NPS system is the market-leading data warehouse appliance, built specifically to analyze terabytes of detailed data 10 to 100 times faster than existing data warehouse options, at half the cost. The NPS system stores, filters and processes terabytes of records within a single unit, analyzing only the relevant information for each query. Netezza has placed the CPU power next to the data, allowing the NPS system to speed through processes that would occupy most data warehouse systems for hours, or even days, thereby enabling dramatic increases in productivity across the organization. Customers who have recognized the performance benefits of Netezza's approach include Ahold, Amazon.com, Cingular Wireless, CNET Networks, Debenhams, Epsilon, Orange UK, Premier, Inc., Shoppers Drug Mart Corporation, The Carphone Warehouse and The TJX Companies.
