Sales of Four Cylinder Vehicles On The Rise

Washington DC May 22, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that sales of smaller engine vehicles are on the rise, due to a combination of high gas prices and a flood of new four-cylinder vehicles, reported Automotive News.

According to the Power Information Network (PIN), sales of four-cylinder vehicles grew from 30.1 percent of market share in the first week of January to 35.4 percent in the week ending May 14. "Mpg is the message," commented Fritz Hitchcock, AIADA Board member and owner of Puente Hills Ford, Toyota and three other Toyota dealerships in the Los Angeles area. "I would think this summer we would see even more trend toward people going toward four cylinders."

Several new four-cylinder models including, the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and Mazda5 can also be cited in the rise of this segment.
