CASCAR - N#1 - Barrie Rain Delay and Grid
Inclement weather delays the CASCAR Super Series season opener to Monday
afternoon at Barrie Speedway
TORONTO, ON – The start of the 2006 CASCAR Super Series season has been
pushed back one day. The GO-RACING.CA 300 – originally scheduled for Sunday
evening at Barrie Speedway – has been rescheduled to Monday afternoon by
inclement weather.
Spectator gates will open at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. The CASCAR driver
autograph session will begin at 2:15 p.m. and the green flag is scheduled
to fly at 3:15 p.m. Three Barrie Speedway home division support classes
will race between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Five-time and current CASCAR Super Series champion Don Thomson Jr.
demonstrated his intention to make it six in a row when he posted the
fastest lap during Saturday afternoon’s time trial session to earn the pole
position for the GO-RACING.CA 300. Brantford, ON racer Doug Brown was
second fastest and will line up on the outside of the front row on Monday.
On Saturday evening, the rest of the 25-car grid was determined via a pair
of 50-lap sprint races. Don Thomson won the first, ahead of DJ Kennington
and J.R. Fitzpatrick. In the second 50-lapper, veteran racer Kerry Micks
passed Doug Brown in the late-going to earn the victory. Brad Graham was
third in the second heat.
