VANDERGRIFF STARTS FROM No. 2 POSITION IN COLUMBUS

HEBRON, Ohio (May 20, 2006)- Bob Vandergriff Jr. drove his UPS Top Fuel
dragster to the No. 2 qualifying position at the Pontiac Performance NHRA
Nationals at National Trail Raceway after posting a career best elapsed time of
4.513 seconds at 323.89 mph. Friday evening's qualifying session was cut short
by rain shortly after Vandergriff's run was complete. Under a beautiful blue
sky, Saturday's two qualifying session's were plagued by intermittent electrical
problems with the tracks timing system. This is Vandergriff's best start of
the eight race old 2006 NHRA POWERade season with his Jim Dupuy-led team.
Vandergriff will have lane choice in the opening round of Sunday's
elimination's against the No. 15 qualifier Luigi Novelli.
