Outdoor Lighting Industry - New Corrosion-Resistant Aluminum Die Casting Alloy Provides Better Heat Dissipation
A new, more robust die-casting alloy has been developed
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., May 19 -- Lighting manufacturers can now die cast lighting components with an alloy that has superior corrosion resistance and improved thermal properties. This patented material called Delphi K-Alloy substantially improves corrosion resistance when compared to today's commercial A360, A380 and A413 alloys. Even the best of today's commercially available, corrosion resistant aluminum die-casting alloys require expensive specialty coatings to meet customer performance specifications.
"An outdoor lighting company has successfully completed 3000 hours of salt spray testing without coatings," said Marty Newman, Chief Technology Officer for MDW Technologies.
Delphi K-Alloy is available in commercial quantities and has been used in a high volume automotive application for several years. The physical properties of Delphi K-Alloy are: 25,000 psi yield strength verses 23,000 psi for A380 and better elongation at 5.1% for Delphi K-Alloy and 3.8% for A380.
* Die-casting products can be produced using current dies without dimensional changes.
* Current die-cast equipment needs no modifications to process the Delphi K-Alloy.
* Delphi K-Alloy may be used in place of stainless steel in qualified applications.
* Good paint adhesion without extensive pretreatment * Trial quantities are now available. * Additional technical information is available upon request.
