BimmerWorld Upbeat For Mid Ohio SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Race
Mansfield, Ohio - With rain in the forecast, the Bimmerworld team has
been busy preparing for Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Round 3 of the
SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge Touring Car race, May 19-21.
The green flag will fall Sunday, May 21 at 3:15PM and the race will
be broadcast on PEE Channel, Saturday, May 27 at 8pm Eastern Time.
Since arriving back at the BimmerWorld shop following the St.
Petersburg race, team owner, James Clay and the crew have been
developing their all-new BMW E90 race cars.
"The development of the new BMW E90 has been going well," said Clay.
"We arrived at Mid-Ohio early this week to get in some test time.
Unfortunately, the weather has not been cooperating. As a result, we
made a decision to focus on the #38 E90 for Seth Thomas and put Dave
Scott and myself in the E45s. The guys at the BimmerWorld shop have
done their homework on the E90. And though it will be just the one
car, I am excited about our debut."
"Mid Ohio is not the best RWD track, except maybe in the days before
the E46 was regulated," continued James, reflecting on the upcoming
race. "So the track will be challenging. Seth (Thomas) and I drove
the newly paved track today in another BMW - it was nice to get a
preview of the new surface and I think it will prove to be helpful."
"Rain will be a factor and the new track surface seems exceptionally
slick when wet," added Clay. "My previous best results in World
Challenge at Mid Ohio were in the rain driving our old BMW E36s back
in 2003. So actually, I see some advantage to the conditions."
Seth Thomas expressed his enthusiasm of getting back on track after
the long hiatus since St. Petersburg.
"We haven't had much of a break from driving in the last few weeks,"
expressed Seth. "We have spent a lot of time testing and getting the
new E90 ready for its debut this weekend. I feel like I am ready to
race."
"James and I also spent the day at Mid Ohio driving an older chassis
BMW in the wet and in the dry on the newly paved track," Seth added.
“I think this has definitely helped us prepare for the weekend...
especially after such a long break in the World Challenge schedule.
Mid Ohio is a great track for us. It is the track where I received my
racing license and I always look forward to returning here."
"I am very excited about the new car," said Thomas. "The last few
months I have only seen pictures of the cars. When I saw the
BimmerWorld E90 for the first time I was in awe. It is a beautiful
racecar. The guys in the shop have made it a work of art. I can't
wait to get it on track and race!"
Dave Scott will join the Bimmerworld team for this week's event.
"I'm really looking forward to being a part of the Bimmerworld team,"
said Scott, "and I'm excited to make my World Challenge Touring Car
debut at Mid-Ohio. Having raced there before, I know how challenging
it is. I also know how much of an equalizer the track can be on both
the cars and drivers."
“We're all pretty aware of the likelihood of rain," Dave
acknowledged. “It's going to present quite a challenge on a
slippery, newly paved track. Fortunately, I have the confidence that
the Bimmerworld crew will give me a top-notch car and having Seth and
James as teammates will be an added bonus for me."
