RACING KICKS OFF AT FIREBIRD RACEWAY
Boise, Idaho – The NHRA Northwest Division kicked off its 2006 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series today at Firebird Raceway. This is all part of the 36th annual famed Napa Auto Parts Ignitor presented by Dan Wiebold Ford.
Doug Lambeck of Irvine, Calif., had a great start qualifying in the first position with an excellent pass in Comp Eliminator. Brandon Huhtala of Puyallup, Wash., qualified second in his ’97 Cutlas.
In Super Stock, James Weakland of Morrison, Colo., lead the way in his ’68 Camaro with a pass of 9.611 seconds. Eric Bell of Chandler, Ariz., qualified in the second spot in his ’70 Barracuda, with a pass of 9.734 seconds.
Other top qualifiers included Tommy Gaynor of Vancouver, Wash., in Stock Eliminator, and Shawn Cowie of Richmond, B.C., in Top Comp.
The Top Sportsman Dart Dash brought out the best in both Todd Hoerner of Deer Park, Wash., and Frank Tamez of Yakima, Wash.. In the final round, though, it was Hoerner that took home the title with a pass of 7.004 seconds at 199.29 mph in his ’03 Grand Am.
The big Nitro Knockout will be held Saturday and Sunday with front-engine AA/Fuel Dragsters and AA/Fuel Altered Dragsters. Fans will get to experience explosive nitromethane-powered runs. Qualifying will be held at 1 and 5 p.m. on Saturday and the finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Racing continues Saturday at 9 a.m. Gates open at 8 a.m. Tickets are $20 for Adults and $5 for kids ages 12 and under. Firebird Raceway is located on Highway 16, five miles north of Highway 44. For more information please call the track, (208) 938-8986 or visit the website at www.FirebirdOnline.com
