Herder experiences the good and the bad all in one day
Stouffville driver drives from the back to win

GOODWOOD, ONTARIO – Pearce Herder had the best and the worst of days,
wrapped up in one very long day at the season opening event of the Sunoco
Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels. Herder
was entered in two classes – Rotax Sr. and Canada Sr. His day got off to a
bad start with a disqualification in Rotax for handing in the wrong
‘passport’ for his engine. In Canada Senior, he was late to the grid, and
had to go to the back of the field again.
With the new format this year of pre-final and final, Herder was able to
make his way back in Canada Senior to take the win, and in Rotax he
finished third after starting from the back in the final. Herder also took
home the much deserved GM Racing award. Other winners on the opening day
were Marco Di Leo in Rotax Sr., Kevin Monteith in Canada Junior Heavy,
Anthony Furfari in F1-K Cadet, Joshua Korenyi in World Formula Junior, and
David Ostella in F1-K Junior.

Rotax Max Senior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Marco Di Leo
Marco Di Leo won the pre-final after ‘on track’ winner Pearce Herder was
disqualified for a technical infraction. Steven Mathews finished second and
Darren White was third. Front runners Mike Vincec and Eric Gerrits were
involved in an accident, and they finished eighth and ninth.
In the final, Herder was set to make amends, and did just that. Starting
from the back, he carved his way through to finish third behind Di Leo –
who won - and Gerrits, who was second after starting the final in ninth.

Canada Junior Heavy
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Christopher Lane
Kevin Monteith won the pre-final after a good drive through the field.
Monteith fell back to sixth on the start, and made his way back to the
front to have a good battle with Michael Di Meo. Gary Klutt finished third.
Monteith continued his reign as he won the final ahead of Di Meo and Klutt.

F1-K Cadet
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Anthony Furfari
Pole man Furfari won the pre-final after setting up race leader Reid Arnold
with a well executed pass with two laps to go. Finishing third was Kenneth
Okeefe. In the final Furfari won over Arnold and Julius Makos.

World Formula Junior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Jesse Facchini
Joshua Korenyi took the win over pole man Facchini in the pre-final. Scott
Laporte finished third. In the final, the same three drivers finished in
the top three positions.

Canada Senior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; Pearce Herder
Pearce Herder, and brother Kyle, had to start from the back after being
late to the grid. Gregg Rempel went flag to flag for the win, ahead of Evan
Hayden and Chris Holman. Kyle Herder made it up to fourth, with Pearce
fifth. In the final, both Herders continued their trek forward, with Pearce
taking the win ahead of his brother Kyle. Gregg Rempel – winner of the
pre-final – finished third.

F1-K Junior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier; David Ostella
David Ostella had engine problems before the start, and went to the back.
He passed some karts before the start, and got disqualified for that
infraction. Cory Luciano won the pre-final over Vincent Rago and Dylan
Shaw. In the final, Ostella – from the back – took the win over Luciano and
Addison Rayner

GM Racing awards for outstanding skills went to Pearce Herder, who had the
best and the worst of days. After being disqualified in one class for a
technical infraction, and late to the grid in the other, the Stouffville
driver battled back to take a win and a third.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for
kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct
and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the
safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the
racing ladder to automobile racing.
