Lizards 2nd/5th in GT2 at Houston

Flying Lizard Finishes 2nd and 5th in GT2 at Houston; Lizards 1st in Team and Driver Championship Points

May 12, 2006--Houston, Texas--Flying Lizard Motorsports brought the team's two Porsches in for 2nd and 5th place finishes in today's Lone Star Grand Prix of Houston. In the second race of the 10-race ALMS season, both team cars ran another solid race. Wolf Henzler cleared the finish line in the No. 45 2nd in GT2, and teammate Lonnie Pechnik followed close behind in the No. 44, finishing 5th in GT2. With this result, Flying Lizard is 1st in GT2 championship points with Johannes van Overbeek leading in GT2 driver points.

In the 2 hour and 45 minute street race, van Overbeek started from 6th on the GT2 grid. He was able to move quickly up the field to settle in 3rd place after 30 minutes elapsed in the race. Johannes said of his stint, "The No. 45 was very consistent the entire time. Starting back in the field was tough: I was able to move forward quickly but it definitely took some out of the tires in getting there. The No. 62 Risi Ferrari and the No. 23 Alex Job Racing Porsche got into position early, and although I wasn't able to catch them I held a strong 3rd through my stint, holding off the No. 31 Petersen Porsche."

After an hour and a half, Johannes turned the wheel over to Wolf Henzler for his first race stint with the Lizards. Still in 3rd position, Henzler clocked consistently fast times, beginning to reel in the No. 62 Ferrari, which had moved from the lead to 2nd after its first pit stop, and with the No. 23 Alex Job racing Porsche taking the lead. "I was focused on being consistent and staying out of trouble and I wanted to get the Ferrari. The No. 31 was still close behind me and everything was definitely up for grabs. When the No. 62 had to come in for an pit stop after making contact with the Penske No. 6 Porsche, and the No. 31 had to serve a penalty for running the Chicane, I was able to move to 2nd. With a final double yellow in the race, it was clear we weren't going to be able to overtake the No. 23, but it was a great race and a lot of fun."

Lonnie Pechnik started sister car No. 44 5th on the grid. Lonnie also moved up the field early in the race, but had some challenges with the car. A flat left front brought him in 10 minutes early for his scheduled pit stop and driver change to Seth Neiman. Shortly after the pit stop, Neiman reported a stuck throttle and quickly pitted. The crew was able to fix the problem, sending Neiman back out, still holding 5th place.

Pechnik returned to the wheel to finish the race. "This was a fun race to drive and an exciting race for the fans. It was my and Seth's first race on a street course and the first ALMS street race in three years. The race was tight and clean. Again we saw the breadth of competition in GT2 with Ferrari, Panoz and BMW all running strongly with the Porsches."

The race will be broadcast tape delayed at 1 p.m. May 13, EDT on CBS Sports, the first of five straight Series events on the CBS network.
