RINGERS GLOVES RACING ROUND-UP
Moorpark, Calif. - (May 16, 2006) NHRA had the weekend off but heads to
National Trail Raceway this weekend, while NASCAR’s Busch and Nextel Cup Series
tried to tame the “lady in black?? at Darlington Raceway. Many racers in
the Midwest wanted to race over the weekend, but Mother Nature had her way.
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series – Dodge Charger 500 – Darlington Raceway,
Darlington, South Carolina
Just shy of grabbing his first pole of the year, Ryan Newman sat outside of
the front row for the Dodge Charger 500 at Darlington Raceway on Saturday
night.
He battled both a tight and loose race car throughout the race, but was able
to bring home his second top-10 finish in a row with a sixth.
His Penske Racing South teammate Kurt Busch qualified 10th for the race,
but his car fell off the jack during a pit stop and they weren’t able to build
momentum again, finishing 19th.
NASCAR Busch Series – Diamond Hill Plywood 200 – Darlington Raceway,
Darlington, South Carolina
Newman pulled double-duty again this weekend and raced the No. 39 Alltel My
Circle Dodge on Friday night.
After qualifying sixth, a fuel pressure problem plagued Newman and his team
early on in the race. When he returned to the track, he was one lap down,
but fast. It took seven more pit stops to fix his problem throughout the
night.
Despite it already being a bad night, Newman was spun by Carl Edwards and
was able to recover and salvage a 30th place finish.
Two drivers, both protected with UnderX by Ringers, had better nights than
what Newman experienced.
Jason Leffler was able to advance in the field after qualifying 16th and
brought home a 10th place finish, gaining two positions in Busch Series points.
He now sits in ninth.
Paul Menard also remains in the top 10 in points, although his 13th place
finish dropped him one points position to sixth.
Dirt Track Racing
The World of Outlaws Late Model Series races were both rained out on Friday
and Saturday in the Midwest, while the World of Outlaws Sprint Series had the
weekend off and race tonight at Grandview Speedway (Penn.), the National
Sprint Tour was also rained out at Haubstadt (Ind.). It seems that the only
sprint car racing in the country was on the West Coast in California.
Ringers racer Jonathan Allard picked up another Golden State Challenge
Series win of the season at Placerville Speedway on Wednesday night. He took that
momentum into the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial race at Silver Dollar Speedway
on Friday and Saturday night.
Allard finished sixth on the prelim night, set fast time on Saturday night
and came home second in the feature event.
Other Ringers notables in the field were Jason Statler, 10th; Brent
Kaeding, 14th and Chuck Gurney Jr., 15th.
Allard continues to sit atop the Golden State Challenge Series point
standings.
