a nifty last-lap pass to finish ninth in the 313-minute Daytbna Prototype sprint race
Friday night at Phoenix Interriatianal Ramway in tho Feeds the N~ed/Damn Racing
DORAN JE4 Ford No. 77.
It was the second-mnawutive ninth-place firriah for ths car, whim carries the
colors of the Kodak EasyShan System, Amp'd Mobile and SIRIUS.
Borchellar, formerly of North Phoenix and now of Vero Beach, F k , held afl the

Borchollar took evasive action to avoid him and was sucerMul, but four driwrs
behind him got caught up in the accident. Besides Fittipaldi's Crown Ruyal car, the
others that were done for the evening were Oha Ruby Tuesday No. 23, ths Howard-
BOBS No. 4, the Derhaag Motorspom No. 40, and the Red BullBrumas Porscha No.
58. Luckily no one was hurl.

Doran Racing was 11th in tmam points going into this event and unofficially it's
still in that spot after tunight's Again unofficlally, it's just eight points out of tenth
place in points, which is held by the te3m that won here tonight.
"I last a couple of spots because I was bottled up on the inside far awhile, but
I thought it was fortunate that we missed the wreck and that we were able to pass
the Na. 60 car," Borcheller said afterwards. "We're all pleasad that we made 5oms
valuable points tonight."
A3 tar 83 the big wreck, Borchellsr said, "A11 I saw was Christian spinning. I
had to go through the gravel to miss him. Four cars behind us got caught up in it. I
thought we were fortunate to miss it."
Bbrehsller started 10th In this r3w1 although he actually qualified 17th by
virtue of his time in the qualifying/praactica session Friday afternoon. His fastest lap in
that session was a 58.132 (93.611 miles per hour), which was run on his 18th lap.
That was just 0.88 of a second off the fastest time $et in the session, which was post-
ed by the Lowe's Femandez Racing team, It also put the Kodak c3r in 11th place
overall on the combined practice report for the two sessions run QII Thursday and the
one run tod3y.
Borcheller gat to start tenth in Friday night's race, however, when the seventh-
fastest car, the Pacific Coast Motorsports No. 89, was penallzed and had to start at
the re3r because its ham didn't submit its qualifymg drivw norninatton paprtwark by
the 5 p.m. Friday deadline.
Borcheller's codriver, Harrison Brix of San Jose, Calif., will start ninth in
tomorrow'$ longer race here due to the team'$ results Friday night.
Borcchellar was originally scheduled to also compete in the ALMS race in
Houston tanight, but he ended up not going to Texas bemuse the car he wa8 going

to drive wasn't quite ready.
The team w33 very pleased that long-time Daran Racing driver Didier Theys
visited with them in the plts and the paddock here Friday. Thrys and Eorchallrr,
along with Scott Pruett, Max Angelelli and Wayne Taylor, are all tied for third on the
overall Rolex Series driver career victories list with nine triumphs. Only two other
drivers have more overall race victories in the series: James Weaver with 13 and
Butch kitzinger with 12.
Fridayf$30-minule points race for Daytona Prototypes was part of the GAIN-
SCO Grand Prix weekend and its finish sets the top half of the starting lineup for
Saturday night's longer Rblex Sarias race for bath Daytona Prototypes and GT cars.
That race will start at 7p,m, local time and will ba shown on SPEED at 3 p.m. Eastern
time Sunday. The distance is 250 milesll6B laps cir N u hours and 4$ minutes,
whichever comes first.
