GEICO Gecko to visit Indy on ''Carb Day''; Gecko shows support for GEICO A1 TEAM USA
INDIANAPOLIS--May 17, 2006--The GEICO Gecko is off to the races again...this time he's heading to the Indianapolis 500 to join the A1 TEAM USA/GEICO crew, led by driver Al Unser Jr.The Gecko will be on hand on for Carb Day on Friday, May 26, 2006 to help visitors take a closer look at the team car, nicknamed "We The People."
"Well, mate, I'm very excited about being at Indy this year," said the Gecko. "I'll be there when the cars line up for the start of the country's biggest motor sports event. It's a lot more exciting than my daily tea time."
The Gecko's love for racing began a few years ago when GEICO first sponsored Mike Wallace and the Biagi Brothers NASCAR Racing team in 2002. GEICO has also sponsored ProStock motorcycle racer Karen Stoffer and AMA, American Motorcyclist Association, rider C.R. Gittere since 2004.
Recently, the Gecko and A1 TEAM USA owner Rick Weidinger presented GEICO's Chairman Tony Nicely with an official team helmet. A second team helmet went to Berkshire Hathaway Chairman Warren Buffett. GEICO is a subsidiary of Berkshire. Both executives took turns behind the wheel of the GEICO team car during the recent shareholders meeting in Omaha, Neb. The team's show car and driver Al Unser, Jr. are expected to visit GEICO's corporate headquarters next week.
