Honda to Build Sixth Plant in North America
May 16, 2006 Washington DC; The AIADA newsletter reported that Honda intends to build a new plant in North America, which would make six plants in total for the automaker in the region that accounts for half of its global sales.
The location of the factory has not yet been decided, but it is slated to open in 2009 and have a building capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, reports The Associated Press. Honda has two plants in Ohio, and one plant each in Alabama, Canada and Mexico. According to AP, the new plant will likely be built near an existing one.
The new facility is expected to roll out Honda's smaller models such as the Civic and the Fit subcompact.
