Richard Sherman Named Director of Alliances and GM Dealer Development at Mobile Productivity, Inc.
LAS VEGAS--May 15, 2006--Mobile Productivity, Inc. (MPi), a premier supplier of proprietary diagnostic, repair information and service merchandising solutions to the automotive industry, announced today the appointment of Richard Sherman to Director of Alliances and General Motors Dealer Development. In this role he will be responsible for the development of strategic automotive alliances, as well as increasing penetration with all General Motors franchises nationwide.Sherman brings 40 years of automotive industry experience to MPi; including 31 years with General Motors. At GM, Sherman held several senior management positions in sales, service and marketing. Sherman, receiving ASE certification while at Pontiac, was recognized for creating GM's "Mr. Goodwrench" dealer service program. He also developed AC Delco's "Delco Tech" aftermarket service channel, and was subsequently elected to the Automotive News "All Star" industry award as "Service-Person-of-the-Year."
Following retirement from GM, Sherman moved to Saudi Arabia as COO of Aljomaih Automotive; GM's largest Middle East dealer, selling over 13,000 cars and trucks. He was responsible for the consolidation of the dealership operations and implementation of a best practices strategy. It was here during the restructuring that he implemented the "Advantage" certified used vehicle program and initial "Quick-Service" network.
Upon return to the US, Sherman became COO of SLP Automotive, a subsidiary of SLP Engineering, a GM tier-one supplier; responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of the Camaro SS and Firebird Firehawk, for GM's Chevrolet and Pontiac dealers. This also included establishing a network of independent converters and selling the Pontiac GTX directly to dealers. When GM discontinued F car production, Sherman relocated to Scottsdale, AZ as Director of OEM conversion sales for Baer Racing, a prominent performance-brake manufacturer in Phoenix.
Sherman has been extensively involved in the industry aftermarket since the early Goodwrench/AC Delco days, working with the various SEMA shows and councils. This eventually led to Chairmanship of the PRO (Professional Restylers) group and subsequent election to the SEMA Board of Directors, where he currently serves. Sherman has completed the GM Advanced Management program at Emory University, has a BS in Marketing from SIU and Masters from Central Michigan.
"We have an immense opportunity to help automotive dealers improve fixed operations with our proprietary diagnostic, repair information and service merchandising solutions. As MPi continues its national expansion, Richard's extensive background in the automotive industry, particularly with GM, brings some new perspectives and insight that will help strengthen our team. I am confident that Richard will help us further build relationships with GM dealers and grow our business," said Les Silver, CEO of MPi.
Commenting on his appointment, Sherman stated, "Increasingly dealers are realizing that MPi provides a true solution for technicians and service writers seeking to improve their problem solving and selling skills. As a true believer in the importance of developing additional gross revenue through fixed operations, I am excited by this opportunity to tap into my knowledge and experience in this area. I look forward to working with this new group at MPi who are equally dedicated to making a difference for the more aggressive dealers who understand the significance of change."
