Ad Campaign To Spotlight Industry's Commitment to Alternative Fuels

Washington DC May 8, 2006; The AIADA newsletter repoorted that the Alliance of Automotive Manufacturers is kicking off a multi-million dollar ad campaign today which will spotlight the industry's commitment to alternative fuels.

The campaign hopes to recast the industry's image amid attacks from environmentalists and some oil companies who contend automakers aren't doing enough to improve fuel economy, according to The Detroit News. "We want to let people know what we're doing. We know we have a lot to do, but we've already done a lot," said Gloria Bergquist, a spokeswoman for AAM.

The industry says there are over 40 alternative fuel vehicles for sale in the U.S. and 35 more will be introduced in the next year. About 8 million alternative fuel vehicles are in use on U.S. roads today. The campaign will feature print ads targeted in papers such as The Washington Post, Roll Call, Congressional Quarterly, and The National Journal.

Banner ads will also be featured online on internet blogs heavily trafficked by congressional aides on both sides of the political spectrum, including dailykos.com, wonkette.com, and redstate.com.
