AAA Texas: Weekend Gas Watch; Gas Prices Continue Climb
HOUSTON--April 28, 2006--Texas motorists continue to see increases at the gas pumps for the eighth consecutive week, according to AAA Texas' Weekend Gas Watch.The average price of regular self-serve in Texas rose six cents a gallon this week to $2.892--that is 76.5 cents higher than last year's average. Both Dallas and Fort Worth share the distinction of having the highest averages at $2.956 a gallon. San Antonio has the lowest average of $2.795, up three cents since last week.
"Retail gasoline prices remain on the rise this week edging closer to the record highs set immediately following Hurricane Katrina last year," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "By the end of next month, gasoline prices should begin to decline once refineries have completed the switchover from MTBE-blend gasoline to ethanol blend."
The national average for regular self-serve gasoline is $2.927 a gallon--10.2 cents higher than last week.
