Study: Diesel Cars Have Increased Presence on U.S. Roads

How Diesel Engines Work

Washington DC April 27, 2006; The AIADA newsletter reported that the number of registered diesel powered cars, trucks, and SUVs in the U.S. rose 80 percent between 2000 and 2005, according to data released yesterday by the Diesel Technology Forum, a diesel advocacy group.

Last year, 543,777 new diesel vehicles were registered, compared with 301,471 in 2000. Diesels represented 3.6 percent of all new vehicles in the U.S. market in 2005, up from 2.3 percent in 2000, reports The Associated Press.

The rise in diesels could easily be attributed to an increase in options, with 10 more models available now compared to five years ago.
