Oshkosh Truck Subsidiary Pierce Develops Special Services Vehicle for Fire, Homeland Security and Law Enforcement Markets
OSHKOSH, Wis.--April 27, 2006--Oshkosh Truck Corporation , announced today that its fire apparatus subsidiary, Pierce Manufacturing Inc., introduced a new Special Services Vehicle (SSV) for fire, rescue, government, homeland security and law enforcement markets. Introduced under Pierce's value-priced Contender(R) brand, the SSV was unveiled on the opening day of both the Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Ind., and the Government Security and Expo Conference (GOVSEC) show in Washington, D.C."The new Contender SSV extends Pierce's already extensive line of homeland security apparatus, providing the law enforcement and homeland security markets with a customizable, rugged vehicle that can be optimized for their specific application at a value price point," said John Randjelovic, executive vice president and president of Pierce.
The SSV can be configured for mobile command and communications, incident command, special weapons and tactics (SWAT), explosive ordinance disposal, bomb response and mobile laboratory applications. Pierce's Contender SSV is built on a GMC chassis with a choice of 14- or 18-foot body lengths.
