Cirrus Logic Boosts Flagship Audio DSP with Greater Performance, Features; On-Chip Memory Cuts System Costs; CS49530 Family Offers Complete Software Solutions in ROM Memory for Multichannel Audio Applications

TOKYO--April 17, 2006--Boosting the audio processing performance of its flagship 32-bit, dual-core audio digital signal processor (DSP) family and cutting system costs, Cirrus Logic Inc. , a leading supplier of high-precision mixed-signal and embedded products integrated circuits, has introduced the CS49530 family.

With processing power of 1.8 giga operations per second (300 million instructions per second), the CS49530 family delivers a complete digital audio processor for multichannel audio applications such as audio/video receivers (AVRs). Featuring true parallel processing, the CS49530 family allows AVR manufacturers to support extensive audio post-processing simultaneous with a multichannel audio decoder. Further, with its enhanced on-chip RAM and ROM memory, the CS49530 reduces system costs by eliminating the need for external memory.

"The CS49530, as with Cirrus Logic's entire family of audio processors, is unlike many general purpose DSPs because it is a turnkey solution that is tailored for advanced audio applications," said Keith Cheney, vice president and general manager, Embedded Products Division, Cirrus Logic. "We focus on providing sophisticated audio processing solutions. AVR system designers know they can rely on Cirrus Logic to understand their design needs better than anyone else, with high-performance audio processors that are tested and verified, with a full range of audio capabilities."

Within its dual-core structure, CS49530 can operate as two high-performance DSPs in a single IC for efficient parallel processing. This structure improves performance, as each core performs standard audio decoding and post processing simultaneously.

The CS49530 comes bundled with Cirrus Logic's award-winning Intelligent Room Calibration(TM) software, which provides both automatic room equalization and synchronization of timing of sounds to the ear from the various in-room speakers.

Cirrus Logic provides full software support through a full suite of audio algorithms, such as Dolby Digital,(R) Dolby(R) Pro Logic IIx, DTS(R) 96/24, Neo:6, MPEG, AAC, SRS Circle Surround II, Dolby Headphone, Dolby Virtual Speakers, SRS Tru-Surround XT and THX(R) Ultra2, which are built into the IC's on-chip ROM.

In addition to eliminating the need for external Flash memory, the CS49531 further saves system costs by performing on-chip synchronization of audio with digital television video images which, in many systems, is a task requiring additional external memory. It also features 5.1-channel DSD input support to allow AVR designers to easily interface to SACD players.
