Maserati and PTC(R) Renew Partnership for Racing Success

NEEDHAM, Mass.--April 10, 2006--PTC , the Product Development Company(TM), today announced that Maserati Corse, the racing department of the Italian car manufacturer Maserati, has renewed its commitment to deploy the PTC Product Development System for another three years. The agreement qualifies PTC as a Technical Partner and Official Supplier enabling Maserati to effectively manage the whole product lifecycle of its racing cars with PTC solutions. Maserati Corse and PTC have been partnering since 2003, when Maserati decided to rejoin the racing circuit. The PTC Product Development System, a combination of Pro/ENGINEER(R), Windchill(R) ProjectLink(TM) and Windchill PDMLink(TM) supports the Maserati engineering team in creating great racing cars derived from street cars, while effectively collaborating and controlling the digital product structure throughout the lifecycle of the vehicles.

"The PTC Product Development System helped us to reduce our development time dramatically as well as improving our internal change process," said Claudio Berro, technical director of Maserati Corse. "Thanks to the use of Windchill, information collected over the course of the entire development process - in design, production, testing, and even during the actual race - can be easily accessed to make necessary changes fast, which is a key to our racing success."

Maserati transformed the benefits of using PTC solutions into great successes: last year Maserati MC12 participated in the ALMS races in the United States, and Maserati won the Manufacturer's Cup in the 2005 FIA GT Championship and the 24 Hours of Spa; the Trofeo GranSport model was used in the championship devoted to gentlemen drivers; and the Trofeo Light model won the Italian GT championship in its category. "About 40 percent of our success can be linked to our digital product development processes powered by PTC solutions," confirmed Berro.

During the next three years, Pro/ENGINEER will be used for the complete design activities at Maserati Corse. The powerful and advanced capabilities of Pro/ENGINEER enable Maserati Corse to develop race cars like the MC12 in record time based on the latest automotive technologies. Furthermore, Windchill PDMLink delivers key content and process management capabilities, enabling critical function control and lifecycle tracking of each race car component.

"The development of racing cars can be seen as a microcosm of the development process in the automotive industry. Maserati's ongoing commitment to PTC demonstrates how our product development system supports the increasingly complex and innovation-driven development processes for the entire automobile," said Carsten Hochmuth, director PTC partner program.

From Formula 1 to NASCAR to America's Cup sailing, the world's best performance teams partner with PTC to support their advanced and demanding design, development and manufacturing projects.
