LAS VEGAS (April 8, 2006) - On the strength of a 4.559 second pass,
Hillary Will, driver of the KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta
Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster, earned a No. 5 qualifying
position at this weekend's NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip
at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
For the rookie driver, it ties her highest qualifying position of her
young career. She also qualified No. 4 at the season-opening NHRA
Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., the debut race of her professional
Top Fuel career.
"I am please with our qualifying runs and we should have a have a good
car for Morgan (Lucas) tomorrow," said Will, following qualifying. "We
owe Morgan, so to speak. We're zero and one against him, so lets hope
we can make it one and one after tomorrow.
"This is the hometown of our team owner Ken Black and several of our
sponsors -- Findlay Automotive and the Technicoat Companies - and is
also a race sponsored by another sponsor, Summit Racing. We want to do
well in front of these folks and also for Autolite Spark Plugs, Calico
Coatings, Mac Tools and Red Line Oil."
Will squares off against Morgan Lucas in the opening round of
eliminations tomorrow. Lucas qualified No. 12 with a best of four
passes of 4.604 seconds at 311.27 mph. As noted above the pair has met
one time previously, with Lucas coming away with the win light.
Will begins her quest for the SummitRacing.com Nationals Top Fuel title
