Walnut Ridge Battle Embers Ready To Rekindle at Tire Rack
SCCA ProSolo National Series This Weekend
TOPEKA, Kan. (April 7, 2006) - One week after the Walnut Ridge community
poured out its support for the Tire Rack(r) SCCA Solo National Tour
event at the Walnut Ridge Airport, local enthusiasts will have a chance
to cheer for Christmas tree, drag-racing style starts, mirrored courses
and the Hawk Super Challenge as the Tire Rack(r) SCCA ProSolo National
Series comes to town this weekend.
The ProSolo will also give competitors a chance to rekindle any
smoldering remnants of battles played out a week ago.
In A Stock, Steve Wynveen, of Germantown, Wis., finished second in his
mercuryracing.com 2001 Honda S2000, three places ahead of Jeff Cashmore,
of New Berlin, Wis., who will compete this weekend in his Inacom
Information Systems 1989 Chevrolet Corvette.
Andy Hohl, of St. Ann., Mo., got the B Stock win six days ago in Walnut
Ridge, and he'll try to make it two weekends in a row in his Mr. Mom
Racing/Solo2.org 2003 Nissan 350Z. Also from the "Show-Me" State, Chris
Hammond, of Manchester, Mo., finished second to Hohl in the National
Tour event, and will look to even up the score with his co-driver. If
it's not one of those two, another to watch for is Aaron Buckley, of
Charlotte, N.C., in the Timeless Machines 2004 Mazda RX-8.
Coming back to Walnut Ridge after a third-place National Tour showing,
Joel Fehrman, of Smyrna, Ga., is hoping to improve on his podium finish
in B Street Prepared. Fehrman will pilot his Knowledge Performance 2005
Subaru Impreza WRX STi, taking on SCCA ProSolo veterans Lee Piccione, of
Severn, Md. (BimmerHaus/Autocrossers Inc. 1995 BMW M3), and Mitch
Beranek, of Cheyenne, Wyo. (CR Racing 1995 BMW M3).
Matthew Braun, of Northville, Mich., took the top spot in Super Stock in
the National Tour and is back in his PowerPlug 2005 Lotus Elise, taking
on a field that contains the likes of Brian Conners, of Philadelphia,
Pa. (who finished second to Braun less than a week ago), in the LJB
Racing 2005 Lotus Elise; Jerry Onks, of Smyrna Tenn. (VetteSport/RAFT
2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06) and Ian Stewart, of Orlando, Fla. (

911 GT3).
The Walnut Ridge ProSolo Ladies classes are both loaded with talent,
including Beth McClure-Strelnieks, of Austin, Texas (Jungle Cat
Racing/www.lonestarcraft.com 2005 Cooper S) in Ladies 1, who will strike
up familiar rivalries with the likes of Denise Cashmore, of New Berlin,
Wis. (Inacom Information Systems 1989 Chevrolet Corvette) and Meredith
Brown, of Los Alamos, N.M. (Isotope Wheels/Automotive Professionals 1993
Toyota MR2), both of whom will not only compete with McClure-Strelnieks
for the Ladies 1 win, but the Ladies Challenge victory also.
In Ladies 2, Patty Tunnell, of Superior, Colo., will run her 1995 BMW
M3, going for the class and Ladies Challenge win against Karen Krauss,
of Brownsville, Md. (Knowledge Performance 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi)
and Ann Hollis, of Austin, Texas (Soulspeed/ART/GRM Porsche GT3) among
others.
SCCA ProSolo class competition at the Walnut Ridge Airport begins
Saturday at 8:15 a.m. The first cars are scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
Sunday morning, and the Hawk Super Challenge, a bracket-style,
single-elimination format that pits the top 32 cars (including all class
winners and wild-card entries) against each other, will begin at 1 p.m.
Sunday.
