LG Motorsports Heads To Long Beach For “The War By The Shore.”
Detroit – April 6, 2006 LG Motorsports will descend upon Long Beach,
California this weekend. This will be round three of the SCCA Pro
Racing SPEED World Challenge GT Series. The #28 ProLong Tube Headers
C6 Corvette, driven by Lou Gigliotti, will be joined by the #26 LG
Motorsports Corvette driven by Claudio Burtin and the #87 Corvette,
driven by Tomy Drisi. 3 Dimensional Services driver, Doug Peterson,
will not compete this weekend due to a schedule conflict.
“Long Beach is a terrific venue,” said Gigliotti. “We raced here in
the past with Trans-Am and the fans are great. This is a fantastic
market for the Series to showcase the GT cars and it’s always been a
good track for us. It’s also going to be fun having Tomy (Drisi) on
board. Tomy got his first career Trans-Am win here and it’s his
hometown. We’re excited to be here.”
And, the team is excited about their chances on the Long Beach
streets. Gigliotti’s familiar black and yellow flamed Corvette has
been tearing up the track in the early rounds of the 2006 GT
Championship. He lead the most laps at Sebring, while setting the
fastest lap of the race, and dominated the first half of the race in
St. Petersburg. A mechanical issue ended his race a few laps early in
Sebring. At St. Pete, Lou brought the Corvette home just one spot off
the podium in fourth.
“The cars have been really strong,” continued Lou. “We just have to
catch a few breaks to seal the deal. But, there is no question, my
guys are getting it done and the LG Motorsports ProLong Tube Header
Corvettes are wicked fast. We’ve got experience here at Long Beach
and I think that will give us an early edge going in to the weekend.
I know we’ll have the power, and the StopTech brakes allow us to get
into the corners pretty deep. That’s critical on a street course.
We’ll just need to get the handling right, take care of those Toyo
tires and make sure we have something for them at the end.”
Tomy Drisi has a long relationship with the Long Beach track and will
also campaign a Daytona Prototype with Rocketsports Racing this
weekend. He’s especially looking forward to getting behind the wheel
of a SPEED World Challenge car and mixing it up with the Series
regulars.
“I think I should be able to make the transition with little
trouble,” commented Drisi, a native of Southern California. “I think
the cars have similar characteristics to the Trans-Am cars, so that
should be an advantage as I come up to speed with the car. Plus, I’m
pleased to have Lou and the LG Motorsports’ guys sharing their
experience and set-up knowledge of the cars. I’m really looking
forward to racing the Corvette and being in front of my hometown
fans. This is always a fun weekend for us.”
Claudio Burtin agreed with Tomy regarding the weekend and the venue:
“I always enjoyed this stop when I ran in the Trans-Am Series,” said
Claudio. “It’s by no means an easy track to master, but it’s a great
test of handling and power. You definitely need both. Traffic is
always a factor at Long Beach and when you come down that front
stretch by the shore, you really get to stretch your legs. Also,
it’ll be fun having Tomy on the team with us this weekend. I’ve
always enjoyed racing against him so it will be great being on the
same team.”
