Traffic.com Expands Mobile Offerings
ATLANTA--April 3, 2006--Air2Web, the leading developer of mobile messaging and marketing applications for enterprises and carriers, today announced that Traffic.com, Inc., a leading provider of accurate, real-time traffic information in the United States, has contracted with the company to build and implement WAP and SMS traffic solutions for drivers. These solutions will expand Traffic.com's existing voice, mobile, and e-mail offerings, creating fully integrated traffic solutions for consumers. With the Air2Web applications, Traffic.com will deliver instant traffic updates to mobile devices, permitting drivers to make quick decisions while on the road. Using push and pull messaging, drivers can receive traffic summaries and alerts of impending traffic delays, and may also request information about specific roadway conditions. Traffic.com will also send drivers a link to its WAP site that contains useful, real-time traffic information such as vehicle speeds, delay times, and roadway congestion levels. WAP site users will also be able to save their personal driving routes and schedule customized traffic reports for those routes.
"Air2Web has demonstrated success in the wireless market for years, and is able to support us in the development and operation of this system," said Michael F. Nappi, senior vice president of interactive media at Traffic.com. "The inclusion of WAP and SMS to our service capabilities allows us to deliver valuable traffic information in a timely fashion to drivers, when and where they need it most. We are eager to work with Air2Web to bring this service to mobile consumers."
According to the Texas Transportation Institute's 2005 Urban Mobility Report, traffic congestion in metropolitan areas continues to increase. The group's research finds that the annual delay for rush hour travelers has grown from 16 to 47 hours since 1982. Additionally, the group estimates that 2.3 billion gallons of fuel are wasted to engines idling in traffic jams every year. Traffic.com's mobile strategy will help drivers manage the increasing congestion problems.
Air2Web's vice president of marketing, Alfredo Narez, navigates Atlanta's metro traffic congestion each morning, and sees first-hand value in real-time SMS alerts and WAP-based traffic applications. "Traffic.com is entering the mobile market with compelling, relevant information that will help commuters around the country. We are excited to be part of a mobile strategy that will have a far-reaching and measurable impact on mobile service users."
