TRW Automotive Launches Supply of Anti-Lock Braking Systems to Chery A520 in China

LIVONIA, Mich., March 28 -- TRW Automotive Holdings Corp. today announced that the Company's Asia-Pacific and select North American subsidiaries have jointly developed anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for Chery Automobile Company's new A520 vehicles. Chery, an automaker in China, exports its line of passenger vehicles to more than 25 countries.

A pioneer of electronically-controlled ABS in passenger cars, TRW remains among the world leaders in ABS innovation and production. Collaboration with Chery underlines its growing presence in the China automotive safety market. TRW engineers on three continents have worked together to complete the elaborate application engineering process for the A520, a Chinese domestic vehicle platform.

Dinghai Pan, the chief application engineer for TRW Asia Pacific brake products, said he was proud to lead the efforts that delivered these safety products to Chery. "The A520 is equipped with our fifth generation ABS, a smaller and lighter package at lower costs to our customer, while offering enhanced vehicle performance options such as traction control, vehicle stability control and dynamic rear proportioning." Pan added that the A520 also features TRW's front caliper disc brakes and mechanically actuated booster and master cylinder-all engineered to seamlessly fit with the new platform.

The A520 is a mid-sized sedan that took Chery eight years to develop and is targeted to challenge established foreign nameplates from such companies as Toyota, Ford and Peugeot. In recent years, the state-owned Chery has emerged as one of the best-selling car companies in China. While its expansion has been propelled by success in the mini-car category, the carmaker aims to expand in other segments through Research & Development investment and elevated quality standards.

Ed Carpenter, vice president, TRW Asia Pacific, said that TRW holds Chery in high regard for its leadership in the advancement of Chinese domestic brands. "We are pleased to help Chery create vehicles of world-class quality. We believe that it is inevitable that the Chinese market will require increasingly higher safety standards. TRW's expertise in automotive safety makes us a strong partner in meeting that demand."
