No More End of Racing Season 'Blues': NASCAR's Robert Yates Racing Takes Checkered Flag with Dry Polished Concrete Shop Floor; Invites Other NASCAR Teams over to See Floor Benefits
MOORESVILLE, N.C.--March 23, 2006--Robert Yates, one of the top NASCAR team owners and one of the leading minds in horsepower, dreads every December, but not because of the racing schedule, competition or points standings.Yates, the founder and owner of Robert Yates Racing (RYR) used to detest December because that's the time each year RYR would clear and shut down the shop. RYR would remove the old epoxy floor, put down the new epoxy, allow for lengthy drying time, all costing critical downtime and lost weeks while trying to reorganize and prepare for next season's racing schedule.
Yates' major headache carried on each year until 2005 when some of the RYR team went through a major home improvement store here for some supplies and found they were staring at themselves in the store's sparkling concrete floor. After inquiring with the store manager as to who was responsible for the highly shined floor, they returned to call Perfect Polish, a Concrete Polishing Technologies, Inc. (CPT), service company based in Knoxville, Tenn., and the race was on.
Yates said, "The timing was perfect. We were in the process of building a brand new 27,500-square-foot fabrication shop where we produce chassis, suspensions and exhaust systems. When the CPT crew began dry grinding and polishing, they proved to be one of the hardest working crews I've ever seen working tough 12-hour days. Now that we're in our brand new fabrication shop, I won't have to dread those dreary December days anymore. In fact, we're so pleased with the floor finish; we have invited all other NASCAR teams over to see the superb results."
"Our new fabrication shop is state-of-the-art in all categories including our polished concrete floor which is truly a win-win situation. It is highly polished, level, flat, non-slip, with excellent reflectivity. The maintenance is a huge cost-savings factor since it only requires a neutral soap and water with minimal man-hours. Also, as a fabrication shop, we have a steady stream of torch work going on, and molten metal frequently hits the floor. With epoxy, molten metal and acid cleaners can really tear into the coating. Polished concrete, on the other hand, really holds up incredibly well in these situations far ahead of the alternative coatings. And clean-up is a snap," according to Yates.
