CIRCLE TRACK WEEKEND WRAP-UP
NASCAR in Atlanta, NST in Cali
Moorpark, Calif. - (March 21, 2006) NASCAR’s three premiere series headed
south to Atlanta Motor Speedway over the weekend.
The Craftsman Truck Series and Busch Series ran on their scheduled days,
while the Nextel Cup Series was postponed until Monday, since rain washed out
its regular day on Sunday.
On Friday, the Trucks raced under the lights at Atlanta Motor Speedway in
the John Deere 200.
The Ringers supporting teams of Orleans Racing, Billy Ballew Motorsports and
Green Light Racing all posted finishes.
Brendan Gaughan and his No. 77 Orleans Dodge brought home a 13th, BBM driver
Kyle Krisiloff, 16th and Green Light Racing’s Sean Murphy a 32nd.
Saturday saw the Busch Series regulars and a good amount of Buschwhackers
(Nextel Cup Series regulars who run Busch on occasion) in the Nicorette 300.
Cup regular Ryan Newman continues to be plagued by tire woes in the 2006
season. After qualifying second, Newman took a hard hit late in the race after
his right rear tire shredded, launching him into the frontstretch wall. He
was scored 39th.
Part-time Busch Series driver Tracy Hines, protected with UnderX by Ringers,
had about as much luck as Newman had. Hines was involved in an accident on
lap 99, ending his day early and giving him a 41st place finish.
The only one that had luck on his side was Paul Menard. Menard, also
protected with UnderX by Ringers, brought home a 10th place finish.
Menard also made an appearance in the Nextel Cup Golden Corral 500 on Monday
afternoon.
Menard, making a limited number of starts in Cup this season, was able to
bring home a seventh place finish.
Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Alltel Dodge for Penske Racing South, hasn’
t had the start to the season he is used to having. Newman spun early on
in the race and had to restart at the back of the pack.
Battling an ill-handling car throughout the day, Newman was able to salvage
an 18th place finish at the checkers.
His Penske teammate Kurt Busch was involved in a mid-race mishap with two
lapped cars that put him behind the eight-ball the remainder of the race.
Busch crossed the line in 37th.
The NASCAR Busch and Nextel Cup Series head to the high-banks of Bristol
this weekend, while the Craftsman Truck Series has the weekend off.
In dirt track news, Ringers racer Tim Kaeding dominated National Sprint Tour
action at Bakersfield Raceway in Bakersfield, Calif., on Saturday night,
bringing home his second win in a row.
Fellow Ringers racers also competed with the NST. Shane Stewart finished
fifth, Chuck Gurney Jr., 15th and Jonathan Allard, 24th.
The NST’s next stop is Outlaw Motor Speedway in Oktaha, Okla., on April
15.
