Driver News - Mike Vincec races around America (FWT, WKA & Stars)

Mike Vincec - Road trip to Oklahoma
3 Weekends - 3 Series and a WKA win at Charlotte

Charlotte, NC - March 14, 2006 -- The season is just getting started for 14 year old Mike Vincec and the Stouffville, Ontario native has completed one series, grabbed a win in another and is about to make his ICC debut in the Snap-on Stars of Karting Series presented by Indy Racing League. This weekend will see the end of a long, three-week road trip for Vincec and the Cameron Motorsports crew.

Mike called in this week as they left Charlotte, North Carolina to report results of the WKA Manufacturer's Cup race at Lowes Motor Speedway. Mike was pretty enthusiastic and happy to report that after qualifying 8th for Sunday's race and finishing 2nd in the pre final, he was able to bring his Cameron Motorsport Swedetech powered CRG across the line for the win. "We had some disappointments on Saturday and an on-track incident wiped out a decent result," noted Mike, "so we were looking to come back on Sunday and prove we can run up front."

Sunday turned out to be a good day weather wise as the sun was out all day. Problems at the start of the morning's practice session meant going straight to qualifying and Mike ended up eighth. The track really changed from the day before and the kart wasn't really there. "We really could have used that practice session to set up the kart after making some chassis changes," offered Mike. The team went out for the pre final starting eighth and after having a clean start coming out of corner one in seventh Mike started challenging for positions one by one and made his way to second in five laps, finishing right on the bumper of the race leader. Starting on the front row for the final and after passing the polesitter and then battling with another driver for a few laps Mike took his first win in the Pro ICC class.

"This was a great practice session for myself and the team." Mike continued to say that "although we are not running the full WKA schedule, this was an ideal opportunity to do some testing before the STARS race in Norman and getting some data for the STARS race here at Lowes in the summer. The win is an absolute bonus!"

Prior to the race in Charlotte, Mike and the Cameron Motorsport crew were at Ocala Gran Prix circuit for the final round of the Florida Winter Tour. They had struggled through some of the sessions but still managed to earn some top five results and put in some good qualifying runs over the full series. When the final points were tallied for the series, Mike finished 5th overall in the Pro ICC class. "We are happy with that result," said Mike. "If only Sunday's race had gone a bit better for us, maybe we could have made the podium that day and finished the series in a better position."

Mike and the Cameron Motorsport team are in Norman, Oklahoma March 16-19 for the Race of The Americas, the opening round of the Snap On Stars of Karting Series presented by Indy Racing League.
