Iteris Lane Departure Warning System Debuts in MAN and NEOPLAN Long-Haul Coaches

ANAHEIM, Calif.--March 13, 2006--Iteris Inc. (AMEX:ITI), a leader in the development of vision-based technologies and Intelligent Transportation Systems that optimize traffic flow and enhance driver safety, today announced that MAN and NEOPLAN, which together are Europe's third-largest commercial vehicle manufacturer will offer Iteris' Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system as optional equipment on its award-winning NEOPLAN Starliner luxury coaches and other coach models including the NEOPLAN Cityliner and MAN's Lion's Coach. MAN produces an estimated 1,000 long-haul coaches per year.

Originally showcased on the NEOPLAN Starliner in 2004 for the first time at the International Automobile Show (IAA Nutzfahrzeuge) in Hanover, Germany, MAN was the first to offer Iteris' LDW system known as Lane Guard System (LGS) as an optional safety feature on its busses in 2005. Iteris developed a modified version of the LDW system for use on busses by providing a "haptic" warning to drivers, rather than the audible warning designed for truck drivers. This feature allows bus passengers to travel without hearing any emitted warnings.

"After success in commercial trucks and passenger cars, we believe the bus market is a natural next step for widespread LDW deployment," said Jack Johnson, chief executive officer of Iteris. "Iteris has enjoyed a successful business relationship with MAN in the commercial truck market since 2002 and we look forward to the same opportunities in the bus market."

Pioneered by Iteris Inc., the LDW system has been in production since 2000 when it made its European debut in Mercedes Actros trucks. Approximately 20,000 production LDW units have been sold for heavy truck platforms in the European and North American markets with an estimated billion miles traveled per year. Iteris developed its vision-based LDW technology to help address the nation's single largest cause of highway fatalities - inadvertent lane changes caused by distracted, inattentive or drowsy drivers. Unintended lane departures typically followed by rollovers are the biggest danger for busses according to all known accident studies in Europe.

Using image recognition software and proprietary algorithms, the system monitors the relative position of the bus or coach and if it unintentionally crosses the lane markings, the system automatically emits a distinctive seat vibration on the right or left side depending on the direction of travel, alerting the driver to make a correction. Use of the vehicle's turn signals automatically overrides the system.
