RAMPY RUNS RAMPANT OVER COMPETITION

ORLANDO, Fla. -David Rampy (Piedmont, Ala.) scored the win at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Orlando Speed World Dragway on Sunday while hometown favorite Ken Wells (Orlando, Fla.) won in Super Comp. The event was the second of six on the NHRA Southeast division schedule.

Rampy was the top qualifier after Friday's final session but ended up No. 2 to Glen Treadwell (Sorrento, Fla.) after qualifying was complete on Saturday. Today, however, it was Rampy who ended up on top, beating Treadwell in the final round with a 7.363-second, 165.47 mph run in his roadster. In Rampy's last outing, an NHRA national event in Phoenix, he won in Comp Eliminator and in Stock Eliminator. This weekend he lost in the fifth round of Stock to the eventual event winner, Dave Lindsay.

Super Comp winner Wells piloted his dragster to the win over Steve Deatherage (Rockledge, Fla.).

Joining Rampy and Wells in the winner's circle were Craig Marshall (Columbus, Ohio) in Super Stock, Lindsay (Fort Pierce, Fla.) in Stock Eliminator; Tom Sweeney (Pinellas Park, Fla.) in Super Gas; Mike DeSio (Seminole, Fla.) in Super Street; and Jerry Duke Jr. (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) in Top Sportsman. NHRA Southeast division racers head to Bradenton, Fla., for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Bradenton Motorsports Park will host the three-day event March 24-26.
