Irwindale Speedway Cancels March 11th Races Due to Weather

IRWINDALE, Calif. (March 10, 2006) - Inclement weather forecast for the Los Angeles area has forced the cancellation of tomorrow's (Saturday) opening night of motor racing activities at Irwindale Speedway.

“Naturally, we feel bad about canceling our opening night event in advance, especially when you know that race competitors and fans are unique when it comes to braving and waiting out adverse weather conditions,” said Bob DeFazio, COO and General Manager of Irwindale Speedway. “However, Saturday evening's forecast is so uncertain that weather forecasters are unable to accurately predict if the conditions would be favorable enough for us to conduct any races at all. Under the circumstances and as a courtesy to our loyal fans and competitors, postponing tomorrow night's season opener in advance of it was the right thing to do.” 

Opening night activities including Advantage Ford Presents Shav Glick Night, honoring the longtime racing writer with the Los Angeles Times has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 18. Tickets purchased in advance for tomorrow night's activities will be honored on the 18th.

Activities scheduled for next Saturday night include Lucas Oil Super Late Models (rescheduled from the 11th), Grand American Modifieds, Auto Club Late Models, Justice Brothers Pure Stocks, and Pick Your Part Figure 8's. Gates open at 4 p.m., fan appreciation autograph session with take place at 5:30 p.m., with racing beginning at 7 p.m.
