Wins "No Problem" for Torrence and Stidham in Belle Rose
BELLE ROSE, La. - In the final eliminations at the Allstar Automotive
Group Cajun Nationals, a round of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series,
being held this weekend at No Problem Raceway Park, defending Top
Alcohol Dragster National Champion, Steve Torrence and Top Alcohol Funny
Car driver, Jackie Stidham scored wins in their respective categories.
Picking up right where he left off at the close of the 2005 South
Central Division season, Torrence scored his first win of the year
today. In the final, Torrence was unopposed after his opponent, Spencer
Massey of Fort Worth, Texas, broke in the semifinals and was unable to
return for the championship round. Despite being on a solo run, the
Kilgore, Texas runner still thrilled the crowd, laying down an
impressive 5.362 second pass at 266.95 mph.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car, the win for Stidham was earned
over Jon Johnson. In the final, Stidham earned his win over Johnson
after the Beaumont, Texas runner was unable to get his car into reverse
after his burnout. This allowed Stidham to make a solo run and take the
easy win with a 10.862 second pass at 110.43 mph.
Other winners at this weekends event were Rodger Brogdon of Tomball,
Texas in Comp Eliminator; Edmond Richardson of Greenbrier, Tenn., in
Super Stock; Terry Landry of Baton Rouge, La., in Stock Eliminator;
Douglas Miller of Houston in Super Comp; Jimmy Lewis of Forney, Texas in
Super Gas; David Boudreaux of Prairieville, La., in Super Street; and
Jerry Pomilla of Conroe, Texas in the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series
presented by Harley-Davidson. The winners in the South Central
Division's Reher-Morrison Top Sportsman and TCI Comp Cams Series' were
Ed Stuart of Pensacola, Fla., in Top Sportsman and Thomas Levatino of
LaPlace, La., in Top Dragster.
The next stop on the South Central Division tour is Memphis Motorsports
