Torrence and Stidham leaders at No Problem Raceway Park

BELLE ROSE, La. -  In final rounds of qualifying at the Allstar
Automotive Group Cajun Nationals, a round of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing
Series, being held this weekend at No Problem Raceway Park, Top Alcohol
Dragster driver, Steve Torrence and Top Alcohol Funny Car driver, Jackie
Stidham are the qualifying leaders heading into Sunday's final
eliminations.  
Torrence, the defending National and Divisional Champion in the class,
recorded a pass of 5.318 seconds at 264.80 mph to earn the top spot in
his class. Qualified behind Torrence is class rookie, Spencer Massey of
Fort Worth, Texas. Despite earning his license only yesterday afternoon,
Massey, who is piloting a dragster owned by racing legend, Gene Snow,
qualified considerably well. He recorded a 5.466 second pass at 238.76,
to take the second spot. In the opening round, Torrence will race
Brandon Pierce, while Massey will line up next to Vitali Kazakevich. 
After struggling in the opening round of qualifying yesterday, today
Stidham laid down a 5.584 second pass at 256.36 mph, to take the top
spot from Friday's leader, Jon Johnson of Beaumont, Texas. In tomorrow's
opening round at noon, Stidham, who hails from Chickasa, Okla., will
face former Olympic Cyclist and gold-medalist, Marty Nothstein, who
qualified 6th with an off-pace 11.262 second pass at 76.42 mph. 
After final qualifying in Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and Stock
Eliminator, yesterday's leaders, Brian Self of Hempstead, Texas Brent
Johnson of Lecompte, La., and Fred Henson of Madisonville, Texas all
remained the qualifying leaders in their respective class. The low
qualifier in the NHRA Sportsman Motorcycle Series presented by
Harley-Davidson is Rich Gentili of Humble, Texas. After the final rounds
of qualifying in the South Central Division's Reher-Morrison Top
Sportsman and TCI Comp Cams Series' the low qualifiers are Earl Folse of
Raceland. La., and Michael Manners of Willis, Texas.
Gates at No Problem Raceway Park open tomorrow at 8 a.m. Sunday's racing
action begins at 9 a.m. and will feature final eliminations in all
classes. Final eliminations for the competitors in Top Alcohol Dragster
and Top Alcohol Funny Car are scheduled to begin at noon. Tickets for
the event are $20 on Sunday and include a pit pass. Children 10 and
under are admitted free with a paid adult.
