Considered as one of the best linebackers in OSU history, Hawk is expected to be a top-five pick in the 2006 NFL draft in April. Hawk possesses tremendous tackling skills, speed to run down ball carriers, and rush the QB. During the 2005 season, he had 121 tackles, 16.5 tackles for losses, and 9.5 sacks. The 238-pound Hawk ran a 4.46 second 40-yard dash. (2005 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Associated Press All-America team, Lombardi Award)
While Carpenter was unable to play in the 2006 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl because of an ankle injury, he is considered an impact player with his ability to disrupt plays in the backfield. Carpenter, the son of former NFL running back Rob Carpenter, had 10.5 tackles for losses and 8 sacks in 2005. (The Cleveland Browns have the 12th pick in the NFL draft. Many fans would like to see Carpenter's colors scarlet and gray morph into orange and brown.)
Schlegel does not miss tackles and the NFL scouts have taken notice of this fact. In 2005, he had 82 stops and 7 tackles for losses.
