NASCAR Weekend Wrap - Fontana
NASCAR WEEKEND WRAP-UP – CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY
Moorpark, Calif. - (February 28, 2006) Ringers Gloves sponsored NASCAR race
teams visited the California Speedway in Fontana over the weekend as the
Craftsman Truck, Busch Grand National and Nextel Cup Series took to the
2-mile D-shaped oval.
The weekend of racing started off with the Craftsman Truck Series and the
racetickets.com 200 on Friday night.
Ringers Gloves collaborated with Green Light Racing and Eric Norris, son of
legendary movie and television star Chuck Norris, for a one-race primary
sponsorship deal. Ringers will also be an associate on the No. 07 truck for the
rest of the season.
Norris qualified 24th for the race, but on lap 48 while running in 20th
position, Norris got loose, collecting another truck and ending Norris’ run for
the night. He was scored in 35th.
Brendan Gaughan and his Orleans Racing No. 77 Dodge didn’t have much luck
either. Gaughan retired on lap 17 with engine woes and was scored 36th.
Billy Ballew Motorsports driver Kyle Krisiloff piloted the No. 15
ditech.com/National Land Liquidation/Krud Kutter Chevrolet to the checkers in 19th
position.
Protected with UnderX by Ringers, Busch Series racers Paul Menard and Tracy
Hines came across the finish line for the Stater Bros. 300 in 17th and 33rd
respectively.
Nextel Cup regular Ryan Newman also ran the Busch race on Saturday. He
qualified second and also finished second in his No. 39 Penske Racing Dodge.
In the Auto Club 500 on Sunday, Newman started in the 11th position while
his Penske Racing South teammate Kurt Busch started on the pole position. Keep
in mind this is only Busch’s second start for his new team.
After battling a tight race car, Newman didn’t have the run he had hoped
finishing 20th, and Busch didn’t either.
J.J. Yeley hit Busch’s No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge during some hard racing with
25 laps to go. But, Busch regrouped and crossed the line at the end of the
Auto Club 500 in 16th.
The Craftsman Truck Series and Nextel Cup Series have this weekend off, but
the NASCAR Busch Series heads south of the border to the Autodromo Hermanos
Rodriguez for the Telcel-Motorola 200 presented by Banamex.
