Kragen Auto Parts Provides Convenient Collection Points for Used Rechargeable Batteries
PHOENIX--Feb. 28, 2006--Kragen Auto Parts today announced a partnership with the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a nonprofit, public service organization dedicated to recycling rechargeable batteries. Kragen Auto Parts stores in California will have RBRC's rechargeable battery drop-off boxes, providing customers the ability to drop off their used rechargeable batteries commonly found in portable electronics products such as power tools, cordless phones, laptop computers, PDAs, digital cameras, and cell phones. CSK Auto is the first automotive aftermarket retailer in the U.S. to offer used rechargeable battery collection.Serving both the do-it-yourself ("DIY") and the commercial installer, Kragen Auto Parts stores are committed to helping protect and preserve the environment. In fact, in November 2005, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and the California Integrated Waste Management Board recognized CSK Auto, Inc. with a Certificate of Appreciation in Corporate Leadership for its successful oil and oil filter recycling collection efforts.
"Rechargeable battery recycling is a good environmental step to take, and we are proud to be a partner in this new program," said Terri Buttler, Environmental Affairs Manager for CSK Auto. "We will monitor the Kragen battery collections closely as we consider rollout of the program to additional regions within our Company."
"It is wonderful that Kragen has taken this initiative well in advance of California's new recycling legislation, which goes into effect this summer," said Ralph Millard, Executive Vice President, RBRC.
There are approximately 490 Kragen Auto Parts stores in California. To find a nearby participating Kragen store, click on "Store Locator" at www.cskauto.com. The recycling program is free of charge to consumers.
