Mindy's Monday Minute: Phoenix NHRA
Moorpark, Calif. - (February 26, 2006) Warren Johnson took the Arizona
heat with stride during the Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird
International Raceway outside of Phoenix over the weekend.
W.J. danced with reigning POWERade Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson in the
final round on Sunday.
W.J. blistered Anderson off the line with a .015 second to .048 second
reaction time. At about the 200 foot mark, W.J. recalls not seeing Anderson…and
that was because Anderson had bowed out. The Professor picked up his 96th
career win with a 6.770/206.13 mph run.
The upsets carried over into Funny Car action as well. Tommy Johnson Jr.
took on reigning POWERade Funny Car champ John Force.
A pedal fest in sued pretty much off the line between T.J. and Force and
once T.J. noticed Force was having the same issue, he shoved the clutch to the
floor and just went with it, picking up the first win for Snake Racing in
2006.
In Top Fuel, Schumacher Racing’s (Ringers team) Melanie Troxel was looking
for her second career and second straight win, but unfortunately Rod Fuller
crushed her hopes with a 4.563/321.42 to 4.89/318.92 mph run.
The National Hot Rod Association take a break from action until the ACDelco
NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Fla., March
16-19.
