United Way Announces GEICO as Central Georgia's Largest Contributor

MACON, Ga., Feb. 23, 2006 -- GEICO was named the largest contributor to the United Way of Central Georgia today at a special ceremony recognizing annual campaign efforts. Chuck Harmon, campaign chairman for 2005, congratulated GEICO's regional vice president John Izzo who reported that GEICO's combined employee and corporate giving total came to $549,118.

"We are honored that GEICO has chosen United Way as a way to change lives and improve Central Georgia communities," said Mardie Herndon, chairman of United Way's board of trustees. "GEICO and its employees have a long history of giving back to the communities in which they operate."

Over the past five years, GEICO has raised more than $2 million for United Way. This amount includes corporate and employee contributions. In addition, GEICO has provided United Way of Central Georgia with Loaned Executives for the past 20 years to assist with the campaign.

Izzo recognized the special efforts of GEICO's two campaign coordinators - - Carmen Criswell and Dennis Land -- GEICO's Loaned Executive Christina Little and the company's 51 United Way committee members for doing such an outstanding job this year. Said Izzo, "We encourage team work at GEICO and this was definitely a team effort."

According to Harmon, "John and his group knew the difficulties we have been facing the past several years with the loss of our largest employer, and they have risen to the occasion through their extreme generosity and desire to make Central Georgia a better place to live and raise our families. Our hats are off to them for stepping up and helping us improve lives and focus on the issues that matter to all of us."
