Wimmer Sibling Rivalry Back on Track in Fontana

Wimmer Sibling Rivalry Back on Track in Fontana Eddyville, Ky. – 02/22/2006 – As the NASCAR Busch Series travels to Fontana, California this weekend, Chris Wimmer, driver of the #23 Keith Coleman Racing Chevrolet, will face a competitive field, just as he does every week. The difference this weekend is that the field will include older brother Scott. This will not be the first time that these two very competitive Wimmers have met, but it is their first encounter in a NASCAR event.
Chris and Scott both competed in downhill skiing while growing up in Wausau, Wisconsin where the younger Wimmer claims he was usually the victor. The Wimmer brothers have also faced off on the asphalt in numerous Late Model races. Chris likes to remind Scott that it was he who first won the Larry Detjens Memorial, an annual memorial Late Model race held at the State Park Speedway in honor of their late uncle.
With a rivalry that has lasted almost all of Chris’s 26 years, this weekend should prove no different. Not only are the brothers facing off for the first time in the series, but they are competing for the rival Kentucky-based NASCAR Busch teams, as Scott will be piloting the #66 Brewco Ford.
“I am excited to race with Scott this weekend,” says Chris. “Normally he’ll talk to me and give me tips about the track. So, we’ll see if he helps me this weekend, too”, says Wimmer, laughing.
Wimmer and his Keith Coleman Racing team will be in Fontana for the Stater Bros. 300. Wimmer will be forced to make the field on time in the #23 Keith Coleman Racing Chevrolet. With 46 cars in the field, he is one of 15 drivers competing for the remaining 12 starting positions in Saturday's race at the California Speedway. This will be Wimmer's first attempt on the 2-mile oval track in a Busch car. Wimmer made his only previous career start at the speedway in the NASCAR Truck Series in 2004. Starting 35th, Wimmer completed 68 of the 100 laps before retiring early due to electrical problems. Wimmer finished 29th.
Busch practice begins Friday afternoon from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m., with Rookie Practice from 4:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. The final practice session takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Busch Pole Qualifying for the Stater Bros. 300 is scheduled for Saturday at 3:10 p.m. and will air live on SPEED starting at 3:00 p.m. Cars will be impounded immediately following their qualifying laps. The green flag for the Stater Bros. 300 drops at 6:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon and will air live on FX, with coverage beginning at 6:23 p.m. All times are eastern.
