VW Plans 20 New Models in Five Years

The AIADA newsletter reported that Volkswagen has announced plans to launch 20 new models within the next five years, reports The Wall Street Journal. VW chief Wolfgang Bernhard said ten of them will be entirely new models, and the other 10 derivatives of already existing models. Among the new models will be the new Concept A which, according to the Journal, "represents a new push by Volkswagen to return to its roots as the maker of the 'people's car.'" The car has features of an SUV and a coupe and is expected to cost somewhere between $20,000 and $30,000. Mr. Bernhard thinks despite recent drops in sales of compact SUVs, there is still strong demand for the vehicles, particularly among young professionals and young families.
