Greg Anderson hopes for career win 41 at Phoenix*
CHANDLER, Ariz. (February 21, 2006) - There was one thing that Greg
Anderson, driver of the KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock
Pontiac GTO, wanted to do this season that he didn't do in 2005.
Anderson wanted to come out of the gate running and he did just that,
notching a win at the recently completed NHRA CARQUEST Auto Parts
Winternationals two weekends ago in Pomona, Calif.
"The team worked very hard (during the off-season) to help ensure a
better start to the season than we had last year!" said Anderson, who
claimed his 40th career victory with the Winternationals win.
Now Anderson wants to continue the winning trend at the 22nd running of
the NHRA Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals this weekend. "We hope to
repeat our actions from Pomona (at Phoenix) with the addition of
qualifying (our second car) better and putting both KB Racing Summit
Racing Equipment GTOs cars in the finals," said Anderson, who won this
event in 2003.
The three-time (2003-2005) and defending POWERade Drag Racing Series Pro
Stock champion went on to say, "That's a lot harder than it sounds. All
of the teams seem to have done their homework over the off-season. That
should make this season very exciting for the fans of Pro Stocks and
keep each team digging to find more horsepower."
Since the Pontiac GTO's introduction last July in Denver, Anderson's
recent win at the Winternationals was the seventh victory for the GTO in
the last 10 races. It was the third time a pair of Pontiac GTOs has met
in a final round and the 159th win for all Pontiac styles in NHRA Pro
Stock competition. Of those 159 Pontiac wins, Anderson has 38.
Qualifying for Anderson and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment
Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two sessions on Friday scheduled for
3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. and concludes with two additional sessions on
Saturday at 12 noon and 2:30 p.m. Anderson begins his quest for the
Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals Top Fuel title on Sunday with
eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. *All times are local
Phoenix time (MST) and subject to change at anytime. *
