Activplant Performance Management System Drives Improvements at Major Auto Supplier

Activplant partners with Harbour Consulting to improve throughput performance at one of TRW's top U.S. facilities

LONDON, ON, Feb. 20 -- Activplant today announced that TRW Automotive, Inc, (TRW) the world leader in automotive safety, has licensed the Activplant Performance Management System (APMS) for its production facilities in Marshall, IL. TRW's decision to install the Activplant solution at the Marshall location follows the successful deployment of Activplant's software at its Tillsonburg, ON facility. Although the Marshall plant is already highly efficient, the company will be using the APMS implementation to explore process improvements and best practices that can be applied across TRW.

"What we find interesting about the Activplant Performance Management System is how it delivers manufacturing transparency - we have not seen other solutions that enable this type of focus," said Jeff Herrell, North American Occupant Safety Systems Lead Black belt, TRW Automotive. "TRW Automotive is excited about the potential to reach new levels of manufacturing performance."

Activplant will work with Harbour Consulting, Inc., with whom it formed a strategic partnership last August. Harbour Consulting will use data from the APMS to help plant operators and leaders evaluate actual operational performance with real time operational loss visualization at the Marshall location. This will support TRW's plant team members in accelerating its throughput increases by identifying the root cause of manufacturing waste and creating a cycle of sustainable improvements.

"Activplant is thrilled to be working with TRW on this facility because of its focus on lean and continuous improvement, and we're pleased to be partnering with Harbour Consulting and TRW on this exciting initiative," said Dennis Cocco, President and CEO, Activplant. "Harbour's 'Rapid Improvement Event' process coupled with the operational loss transparency that APMS provides will help to drive TRW to new levels of continuous improvement."

TRW, Activplant and Harbour Consulting expect to see improved operational efficiencies within months as opposed to the one to three-year wait period that is typical of alternative factory data collection initiatives.

TRW Automotive will be represented at the Activplant's upcoming Manufacturing Intelligence Summit, taking place from February 20 to 21. For more information, please visit: http://www.activplant.com/summit06/.
