ALT Software & Hybrid Graphics Partner to Offer 2D and 3D Embedded Graphics Solutions
NUREMBERG, Germany and BARCELONA, Spain--Feb. 14, 2006--The Companies' Products and Services Will Jointly Add Graphics Functionality to Devices in the Automotive, Avionics, Mobile, Medical, and Instrumentation Markets |
ALT Software, a global provider of graphics drivers and other solutions for embedded systems, has partnered with Hybrid Graphics, a major supplier of embedded graphics software. ALT and Hybrid have products that employ similar 2D and 3D graphics enabling technologies.
With this partnership both companies can expand their customer base and product offerings by jointly providing system integration services and software products that enable high quality graphics rendering in embedded devices. The collaboration also includes an agreement to provide local support to both companies' customers in North America and Europe. Hybrid is based in Helsinki, Finland and ALT Software is based in Toronto, Canada.
"The combination of ALT and Hybrid is as logical as milk and cookies," said Dr. Jon Peddie of the market research firm Jon Peddie Research, in Tiburon, CA. "The whole idea today is to make it easier to develop and deliver content in ever more complex platforms, and the ALT-Hybrid partnership goes a long way towards accomplishing that."
ALT Software's extensive expertise in device driver development has attracted customers from a variety of embedded computing markets who find ALT's system integration services and COTS OpenGL driver products to be cost effective and time-saving alternatives to in-house development. ALT's success stems from concentration in their niche expertise and their collaborative partnerships with major manufacturers of embedded systems components. ALT's most recent additions to its product line are FAA and JAA certifiable safety-critical OpenGL drivers for use in aircraft by customers that include EADS, Diehl Avionik, Honeywell, and L-3 Communications. Other ALT Software customers include ATI Technologies, Freescale Semiconductor, Fujitsu Microelectronics, and SBS Technologies. ALT Software's OpenGL drivers support Wind River's VxWorks and VxWorks AE653, Green Hills' INTEGRITY and INTEGRITY-178, QNX Neutrino, Windows XP Embedded, BAE Systems CsLEOS, Honeywell DEOS, and a variety of embedded Linux packages.
Clients are drawn to ALT not only for their flexible, multi-platform solutions, but also for their outstanding technical support. ALT routinely assists clients with optimizing their applications to improve graphics performance and reduce system resource bottlenecks. As OpenGL experts, ALT's application optimization support has enabled clients to improve the graphics rendering performance of their applications in some cases by well over 400% by modifying the application code.
The companies' combined product offerings will include software display technologies such as OpenGL 1.4 drivers, OpenGL ES, OpenVG, Java components (JSR), Wind River WindML drivers, and Microsoft Direct3D Mobile graphics support. Hybrid Graphics' Hybrid Framework, Mobile Framework, and Hybrid Core are compact OpenGL ES, OpenVG and Direct3D graphics products that have been integrated across many mobile phone platforms.
Both Hybrid Graphics and ALT Software are members of the Khronos Group, an organization that has shaped the evolution of the OpenGL API and OpenGL extensions for deployment in embedded systems. The synergies in this partnership are driven by the complimentary technologies employed in both ALT and Hybrid products.
"This partnership between ALT Software and Hybrid Graphics will allow both companies to serve customers deploying 2D/3D applications in embedded devices across the entire embedded computing industry," said Dan Joncas, Vice President of Sales at ALT Software. "Hybrid products are so widely used and respected in the mobile phone industry that they can be considered an industry standard. This collaboration will enable us to provide our mobile and embedded computing device clients with additional high performance graphics solutions as well as with more flexible and responsive customer support. Clients want post-sales support that is extremely responsive and sensitive to their project deadlines, from highly knowledgeable providers who can help in product deployment and system integration. Working closely with Hybrid will add to ALT's graphics expertise, which will enable us to support our customers more effectively."
"This partnership with ALT provides us with new opportunities to enhance the market we serve. ALT's customer base is more heterogeneous yet still has similar requirements as with Hybrid's customers within the mobile phone and platform business. ALT also has off-the-shelf products that complement our offerings in the EMEA and APAC markets, specifically in the graphics applications of automotive, avionics, and defense fields," said Panu Wilska, Vice President Sales & Marketing at Hybrid Graphics.
