Excluding 1,690 carloads from the First Coast Railroad which GWI started operating April 9, 2005, and 9,392 carloads from the former Rail Management Corp. railroads which GWI started operating June 1, 2005, North American traffic in January 2006 increased by 5,327 carloads, or 10.1%. This increase was primarily due to a 1,827 carload increase in coal, coke & ores traffic principally in GWI's Illinois and New York-Pennsylvania Regions, a 1,109 carload increase in farm and food products traffic and a 1,080 carload increase in metals traffic. All other commodities were up a net 1,311 carloads. Australian carloads in January 2006 decreased by 2,705 carloads, or 3.3%, compared with January 2005. This decrease was primarily due to a 2,279 carload decrease in grain traffic resulting from temporary service disruptions caused by Cyclone Clare, delays in shipments through the Port of Adelaide and the expected exiting of a grain haulage contract in New South Wales; additionally the 1,549 carload decrease in iron ore traffic was due to scheduled maintenance at an unloading facility. All other commodities increased by a net 1,123 carloads.

Historically, the Company has found that carload information may be indicative of freight revenues on its railroads, but may not be indicative of total revenues, operating expenses, operating income or net income.
