Weekend Racing Rap Up

Hey there!

With the racing season just getting rolling, things are jumping in the usual places at this time of year, Daytona Beach, FL & Pomona, CA! The weather threw the NASCAR & ARCA regulars for a loop with temperatures in the 40's & 50's (Hey, it could be worse, the season could be starting in the NE, where they would need snowmobiles!).

Here's the lowdown on this weekends results:

ARCA @ Daytona International Speedway - Bobby Gerhart, driving the Lucas Oil Chevy, won his fourth ARCA Re/Max Series Daytona 200.

NASCAR @ Daytona International Speedway - The Nextel Cup Series started its 2006 season with a couple of surprises. In the Budweiser Shootout, rookie Denny Hamlin, driving the FedEx Chevrolet, took the win, with Dale Earnardt Jr's Bud Ber Wagon finishing second. In qualifying for the big tamale, the Daytona 500, Jeff Burton put his Cingular Chevy on the pole, with Jeff Gordon's Dupont Chevy qualifying second. 56 drivers will try race their way into the 500 in next Thursday's Gatorade duel's.

NHRA @ Pomona - The NHRA Powerade Drag Racing series was in Pomona this week for the first event of the 2006 season, the 46th annual Carquest Winternationals. In Top Fuel, Melanie Troxel, driving the Skull Gear Dragster, took her first win in the class, besting David Baca in the final. In Funny Car, Robert Hight, in the AAA of California Ford Mustang, beat Ron Capps. In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson, in the Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO, continued his domination of the class, beating Mike Edwards.
