Lost of traction dampens Hillary Will debut at Pomona
POMONA, Calif. (February 12, 2006) - Hillary Will, driver of the KB
Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed Top Fuel dragster debuted
her professional career at the NHRA CarQuest Auto Parts
Winternationals. Will's initial race as a Top Fuel driver can be
considered a success with a No. 4 qualifying position and a Full
Throttle NHRA Pit Crew Championship bonus award.
In the first round of today's eliminations, Will lost to fellow
competitor Morgan Lucas when she struck the tires (lost traction) after
leaving the starting line. Unable to regain momentum, Wills finished
the run in 14.204 seconds at 43.04 mph on the Auto Club Raceway of
Pomona quarter-mile track.
Looking forward to the next race, Will stated, "I wish Phoenix was
tomorrow. I wish our next race was tomorrow. I just can't wait to do
this all over again. I know my crew is awesome I can't say enough about
them and my crew chief, Jim O. (Oberhofer). I have a great team, a lot
of support and couldn't do anything without them."
Next up for Will is the NHRA Checker Schuck's Kragen Nationals, Feb.
24-26, at Firebird International Raceway (FIR) in Chandler, Ariz., just
outside Phoenix. At a recent test session in late January at FIR, Will
tripped the finish line timing clocks in 4.568 seconds at 306.33 mph.
ESPN2 will air same-day television coverage of eliminations from 7:30
until 10:30 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 12). The elimination show repeats
early Tuesday morning (Feb. 14) from 3-5 a.m. Television times are
Eastern Time (ET) and subject to change at anytime. Check local listings.
