MCGILL MOTORSPORTS CONTINUES PRE-SEASON PREP
Team still seeking additional sponsorship for 10 races.
With the second pre-season test in the books, it's time for Busch
Series teams, including the #36 McGill Motorsports/Lester Buildings
Chevy and Tim Sauter, to make final preparations for the start of the
2006 season. Daytona Speedweeks is just around the corner followed by
three high-speed ovals, a road course and a short track in six
straight weeks of racing, the team will use four different cars
during the first six races.
"The guys in the shop are really working hard to get all the cars
ready for the first six races," said Sauter. "Ricky Pearson is a
great leader, with lots of contacts and resources. After the Daytona
test, we had to do some massaging on the bodies of the speedway cars
but the guys stayed on-task and got the intermediate cars ready for
Vegas and they never missed a beat."
Sauter knows that the first stretch of the season is critical for the
team. "We are locked into the points and guaranteed a spot in the
first five races but we need solid finishes to hold that top 30
position heading to Bristol. There's so much travel required between
the tests and it's very taxing on the guys going out west three times
in the first month." In addition, the team also has a special road
race car to prepare for the third race in Mexico City. "We were good
there last year and even led a few laps near the end of the race.
We're trying hard to give Tim a good car and repeat what we did last
year," adds Pearson.
The Pearson-led McGill Motorsports team successfully completed the
second pre-season test at Las Vegas with plenty of optimism. "I was
pretty happy with the car in race trim. We're not quite sure about
the qualifying set-up because our only mock-run was in the middle of
the day in the heat." says Sauter. We did a 25-lap run on Tuesday
afternoon and near the end we were not too far from top ten speeds.
We're a little off at the start of a run, but the car did not fall
off as bad and we picked-up a few tenths on the field." he added.
"Pre-season testing is all about communication, learning what the
driver needs to make the car feel right for him. We ran over 225 laps
during this test, the more laps we get together, the better feel we
get for each other. Tim communicates well, his experience really
shows." says Pearson.
The number 36 Chevy Monte Carlos will sport a new aggressive silver
paint scheme with black and orange accents under the Lester Buildings
banner for 25 of the 35 races on the 2006 Busch Series schedule.
McGill Motorsports is actively seeking sponsorship for the remaining
events. "Having Lester Buildings as our sponsor for the majority of
races is a real plus." States John McGill "We really believe we have
a great package to offer for those remaining 10 races. We can adapt a
sponsorship/marketing package to specific regions and budget needs."
Being an independent team offers McGill Motorsports flexibility and
quick negotiations because you are dealing directly with the owner,
with no red tape or additional overhead. "Lester and McGill
Motorsports already have a great partnership, but they do not sell
buildings in all 50 states." We have several races particularly in
the south and western portions of the country that we can offer very
affordable alternatives to typical sponsorship packages." Packages
can be designed to include show cars, hood and TV panel exposure,
hospitality, garage pit passes, grandstand seating and merchandise
and can range from one race to multiple race deals.
The first race available is the Stater Bros. 300 at California
Speedway on February 25th. Other races that are available to
potential marketing partners include Texas and Phoenix in April,
Kentucky and Daytona in June. Races for the second half of the season
include Watkins Glen, Michigan, California, Texas, and Phoenix.
