2006 Media Kickoff Day at Infineon Raceway

Press Members Invited to 2006 Media Kickoff Day 

at Infineon Raceway, Monday, February 27

 

WHAT:

Infineon Raceway will host a 2006 Media Kickoff in advance of the
upcoming Big O Tires Race Season in the Sonoma Valley. The media event
will be part of a much bigger day at the raceway known as Speed-Fest,
which signals the start to Ignition Tour 2006, a series of three
promotional events designed for race fans entering the upcoming motor
racing season.

 

WHEN/WHERE:

Monday, Feb. 27, 10:30 a.m.-11:45 a.m. (Pacific), Infineon Raceway,
Highways 37 and 121, Sonoma, Calif. (800-870-RACE,
www.infineonraceway.com <http://www.infineonraceway.com/> ). Most
drivers will compete in a karting demonstration at 10:30 a.m. behind the
main grandstand, followed by a formal press conference in the Winner's
Circle at 11:10 a.m. All drivers will be available for interviews
following the formal press conference.

 

WHO:

*	Dan Wheldon (Indy Racing League): Wheldon, who drives the Target
car for Chip Ganassi Racing, is the 2005 IndyCar(r) Series champion and
the 2005 Indianapolis 500 champion.
*	David Stremme (NASCAR NEXTEL Cup): Stremme will pilot the No. 40
Coors Light Dodge for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates in 2006.
This will be Stremme's rookie season; he posted 10 top-10 efforts in the
Busch Series last year and was 13th in the Busch standings.
*	Cory McClenathan (NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series): McClenathan
has been runner-up for the Top Fuel championship four times and has 28
career Top Fuel victories in the NHRA. He'll pilot the Carrier Boyz FRAM
Boost Top Fuel dragster in 2006.
*	Scott Pruett (Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series): Pruett, a
resident of Auburn in the Sacramento area, is the 2004 Rolex Series
Daytona Prototype co-champion along with Max Papis. Pruett also placed
third at the 2004 NASCAR event in Sonoma.
*	Jake Zemke (AMA Superbikes): Zemke, who rides for American
Honda, placed second in the Formula Xtreme class in 2005 with five
victories, including four in a row. He was also 11th in Superbike
points.

  

IN ADDITION:

A catered lunch will be provided for members of the media, as well as a
workspace for those who wish to file from the raceway. In addition to
the media kickoff, the day will also include a number of elements
designed specifically for race fans, including an American Red Cross
Blood Drive, fan forum/autograph session, motor sports corral display
and other items. Look for a detailed press release on specific fan
elements of Speed-Fest in the coming days.
