AAA Texas, Harris County Sheriff's Department, Texas Children's Hospital, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Babies 'R' Us Ask Parents to Trash Old, Unsafe Child Safety Seats

--AAA Texas:
WHO: AAA Texas, Harris County Sheriff's Department, Texas
Children's Hospital, Texas Department of Public Safety, and
        Babies 'R' Us.

WHEN: Friday, February 10, 2006 at 10:00 AM

WHERE: AAA Texas district office
3307 Sage Road (near Richmond Avenue)
        Houston, TX 77056

WHAT: News conference and demonstration of "unsafe" child safety
seats. These unsafe seats will be disabled and thrown away.
AAA Texas will announce its offer of providing thousands of
discount coupons to parents to assist them in purchasing new
car seats. There will be a demonstration of the proper method
        of securing a child.

WHY: Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death in the U.S. for
        children aged 5 through 12. February 13th - 18th is National
Child Passenger Safety Week. Many parents use hand-me-down
safety seats or purchase used safety seats from garage sales,
flea markets or thrift stores. Without knowing a seat's
history, you cannot know if it has been in a crash, has been
recalled or if it is expired. AAA Texas and Babies 'R' Us
will provide discount coupons to Texans toward the purchase of
a new child passenger safety seat. (Coupons are available on
        a limited basis.)
